PDF invoices and ZATCA
Is a PDF invoice enough for ZATCA?
A PDF invoice can be useful as a readable customer document, but it may not satisfy every ZATCA obligation. The answer depends on your business, invoice type, and whether you are subject to Phase 2 integration requirements.
When a PDF invoice is useful
A PDF is easy to send, print, and archive. For quick customer communication, a bilingual PDF invoice with clear VAT totals and a QR code can be very practical.
Muhawil is built for that lightweight use case: generate the document in your browser, review the values, and save or print the PDF.
When a PDF is not enough
If your business is included in ZATCA Phase 2 waves, you may need electronic invoice formats and integration flows beyond a printable PDF. That can include XML, cryptographic stamping, and clearance or reporting.
Do not treat a PDF generator as legal or tax advice. Confirm your obligations with official ZATCA guidance or a qualified advisor.
